About original artwork:
This piece is part of a series of 4 inspired by my role as a Founder-in-residence for a Venture Builder. It is very easy for innovators to fall in love with their ideas. Often, there comes a painful, yet critical, juncture when it is apt to let go of ‘An’ idea in order to make way for something better. Needless to say, it is never easy, but I see this as a natural process of death and rebirth. Just as during autumn the older leaves wither to make way for the new ones in spring; ideas must transfigure in order to add real value. In the artwork, autumn is depicted through shades of green and ochre along with different sizes of juxtaposed leaves. The selective use of bright green in three small regions highlights the hope of spring next to the inevitability of autumn. In the entrepreneur world, this could mean anything from retaining the star team, or hanging on to the successful strategy or learning from mistakes or simply letting go in the hope of a better pursuit. No matter what, there is always some sort of growth; of the plant, of the individual, or of the essence of the idea itself. All that existed before manifests itself in the constantly lived experience of growing.
